Beech Estate Campsite, East Sussex

Set on the edge of a 600 acre woodland near Battle in East Sussex, within the High Weald Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, this off-grid campsite offers wild glamping and camping among the trees. It may be off-grid, but the fabulous and spacious hot bucket showers give a unique take on campsite ablutions, with the tree canopy overhead and ecological body wash to minimise environmental impact really do add fun to the al fresco washing experience! Refreshingly, there is no mains electricity at the campsite and all lighting is provided by solar lamps, wind up lanterns and low energy LED battery units. Whilst here is some sporadic 3G, this really is the place to unplug, relax and gaze at the stars - this really is the place to completely relax and take a moment to breathe.

The Secret Campsite, East Sussex

A campsite for nature lovers, real campers and those really wanting to get away from it all. Generous pitches are naturally screened giving you privacy and your own slice of paradise. If you fancy something a little different, you could stay in Secret Shelters instead - the Okra, a bold five sided wooden cabin in the orchard, the Gridshell, a beautiful structure made from ash and a sail canvas, or the fabulous tree tent, suspended from three oak trees on the edge of the ancient woodland surrounding the campsite, which comes with its own additional tent pitch and fire pit. I know our scamps would love that one! Whichever floats your boat, with hot solar powered showers, a farm shop on site and a Secret Teapot Cafe you are sure to have a fabulous, comfortable stay!

Woodfire Camping, West Sussex

Cindered sausages not your idea of fine camping dining? Look no further than Woodfire Camping, where you can combine the joy of sleeping under canvas with delicious gastro food! There are three sites available - with Westerlands looking over the South Downs. You can pitch your own tent, but there are also pre-pitched tents available if you don't have the gear or fancy a rest from grappling with your own poles and canvas! But what really sets these guys apart is the food! They use local, seasonal produce to cook breakfast and tea most days for their visitors. Sometimes, though you can get tickets to a Feast - where everyone sits together on long tables and they really go to town! Often including visiting chefs, the Feast tickets also include an overnight stay so that you can really kick back and indulge!

Stubcroft Farm Campsite, West Sussex

Field camping next to the sea? Perfection! With a variety of pitch sizes on offer over five fields, where campfires and BBQs are welcome this is the perfect location to explore the West Sussex coastline. You are only a 20 minute walk from sandy beaches and a dip in the sea and a short drive from Chichester Harbour and the South Downs National Park. On site there are great facilities including an amenity shower and toilet block with underfloor heating and a well stocked campsite shop. If your scamps get super dirty, there is even a laundry with washing machine and dryer! This really is a family friendly campsite on the doorstep of fabulous scamping adventures! As “Lets Go Net Zero” Green Business Champions, these guys are serious about ethical and sustainable tourism, with several accolades: they were one of the first campsites in the UK to achieve the prestigious Green Tourism Gold Award and in December 2023 were the first business to win three Gold Awards in Tourism South East / Visit Britain’s “Beautiful South” Awards for “Camping & Caravanning Park of the Year”,  “Responsible, Ethical & Sustainable Tourism” and “Accessible & Inclusive Tourism”. If that wasn't enough they won the Federation of Small Businesses 2024  South East Regional Sustainability Award and are representing the South East Region in the National Finals at the Blackpool Winter Gardens in May this year!!

Earth Camp, East Sussex

If relaxation, meditation and linking back to nature is the focus of your camping requirements, then look no further than Earth Camp in East Sussex. This small, family run and family friendly campsite lies on a ley-line and the Greenwich Meridian Line runs directly through the meadow. What really sets this enchanting place apart are the therapies and events they offer on site, including yoga, massages, reflexology, pellowah, gong baths and stargazing evenings. If you fancy a little luxury, bell tents are also available to hire, there is a coffee truck and pizza oven at weekends. This is the perfect location, if you can tear yourself away from the tranquility, to explore the neighbouring woodland on foot or bike.

So there you go! Five beauties - which one are you going to pick from our Sussex Campsites Hitlist?
