Magical Treehouse Hitlist

Updated: Mar 11

Now, we love camping, tents, sleeping bags, the cool hush of the campsite before everyone else gets up and even the lack of sleep. But sometimes, just sometimes, you need a treat. To still be out there, immersed in nature, but bathed in cosy comfort knowing that a delicious night's sleep is tantalisingly within reach once you have soaked up the view from your roll topped bath. We are talking treehouses in this post. Glorious, beautiful, treehouses. As a child, there were few things more exhilarating than climbing up into the canopy of a sturdy tree and stepping onto the creaky wooden planks of a treehouse. With each step, you left the worries of the world below and entered a realm where anything was possible. The treehouse became a fortress, a castle, a spaceship—whatever you imagined it to be. So be prepared to read this Magical Treehouse Hitlist with lots of "Oooo"s and "ahhhhh"s - you so know that you are going to be booking into one!

The Nest at Sleepy Owl Devon, Hartland Devon

Hands down fabulous! This stunning hand-crafted treehouse is the epitome of luxury. Everything you could possibly wish for is here - gold roll top double bath, cinema projector, wood-fired hot tub, wood fired pizza oven, double person hammock, Nespresso machine, . The most fabulous thing? There is a treehouse within the treehouse for the scamps - how cool is that! If you can peel yourself away from the trees, you will find yourself really close to the Cornwall/Devon coast with so many stunning beaches, coves and rugged headland to explore, including Hartland Quay.

Sky Treehouse, Gloucester, Gloucestershire

Part of the Rewild Things community of beautiful treehouses, Sky is simply magical. It is the largest treehouse on offer on site- comfortable for a couple, but you can squeeze in a couple of scamps on hidden beds. It is also a really accessible, which isn't always the case with treehouses. High up in the Laurel canopy, you will be able to take in fabulous views over the rewilding wetlands whilst cooking dinner in the covered outdoor kitchen, or even more magically from your copper bath on the deck. There is also a firepit outside, but the cosiness continues indoors with a wood burner - don't worry if the weather isn't being kind to you, there are also indoor cooking facilities too! The Oakey Koakey Treehouse, Ticehurst, East Sussex

A cosy and perfectly formed treehouse, ripe for scamping! Fitted with everything you could need inside the treehouse from cosy king-size bed to bunks with their own portal windows into the woods, full fitted kitchen and sundeck with seating and great views. There is also a more substantial seating area with a firepit at the bottom of the rope bridge. You are next to Downash Wood, with Bewl water and Bedgebury Pinetum really close by for additional scamping locations, not to mention oodles of walks right from your own treehouse!

Skylark, Hexham, Northumberland

Oh, now this one is beautiful! Picture postcard perfect and everything you imagined a magical treehouse to be - complete with turret and treetop walkways! I think I have fallen in love. It is just charm personified indoors with comfortable and stylish finishing touches - just look at that kitchen - it could not be more perfect (there is even a dishwasher, swoon!)! Outdoors there is a covered copper bath, large outdoor deck and firepit. Honestly, this ticks every box there is and then some more. I'm not sure that I would want to leave. Skylark is situated on the Hesleyside Estate, which is set in 4,000 acres of outstanding natural beauty in the heart of Northumberland National Park - in their own words "Conquering the art of doing nothing, well, is no mean feat, but Hesleyside is the perfect place to escape from the everyday" - Camping Scamping could not have put it better ourselves!

Tree House Retreats, Midhurst, West Sussex

Hidden within an ancient beech woodland, are four fabulous treehouses. They all have unique personalities and can cater for various numbers of visitors, but the Muntjac gets out vote for being the most family friendly size. All of the treehouses have an outdoor deck with bath and seating, super king bedroom, open-plan living room, underfloor heating, fully fitted kitchens, superfast fibre broadband (although you might want to turn off the devices, unplug and soak up the panoramic views instead!). You also get the use of an electric buggy for the duration of your stay. If you can tear yourselves away, you are in easy walking distance of the award winning Cowdray Farm Shop and Cafe and the historic town of Midhurst, along with lots of walks straight from your treehouse. Only restrictions here are no fires or BBQs.
