Campfire Popcorn Maker

Updated: Sep 16, 2023

One of the things about camping we love the most is the ritual of it all. Being present in the moment, surrounded with good company and really feeling each experience. This little vintage-inspired campfire popcorn maker is no different!

There is something soothing in the knowledge that you are only going to make a small bowl full each time. We relaxed into it and repeated the oil, corn, heat, shake, open process over and over again. Five children, four adults. That's a lot of bowls!

We got our Huckleberry campfire popcorn maker from Not On The Highstreet here for £32.95.

Simply attach a stick to the campfire popcorn maker, open the top of the cage, add 1 tablespoon of oil to the popper base, put in a couple of tablespoons of kernels, click the lid in place, hold it in the flames and listen out for the popping.

Couple of niggles, the lid was hard to open when the popper was very hot. We had a couple of rookie errors where we pinged the lid open with a fork and the popcorn flew out like confetti. Once the technique was honed, it was a smooth running machine. Also it really is small. I had envisaged much larger when I placed the order. Opening it was a bit of a Spinal Tap Stonehenge moment!

We also invested in the Popcorn Shed Gourmet Sweet and Savory flavouring shakers (available here). Five flavours ensure that there is something for everyone - chocolate, toffee, maple bacon, salt and vinegar and sweet chilli. Maple bacon all the way for me! Honestly, bacon popcorn should be made a national dish.

On reflection, we think the cuteness and simplicity of the Huckleberry campfire popcorn maker makes up for its size and cost. Lovely little addition to the camping cooking bag!
